What inspired you to join Pamoja online teaching community?
I joined Pamoja to experience continuous professional development and collaborate with a diverse team of educators, as well as the chance to engage with various teaching styles. This exposure allowed me to broaden my knowledge base and refine my skills as an educator.

Can you share a memorable teaching moment or success story with Pamoja?
One noteworthy teaching moment occurred when we assigned our Pamoja Year 1 students a group project focusing on the development of teamwork and analytical skills. This initiative not only provided them with the opportunity to know each other but also facilitated collaborative group work. I ensured diversity within each group by selecting students from different regions, countries, and time zones, fostering intercultural exchange.
Students were encouraged to use various online presentation tools, and include audio-visual recordings to stimulate creativity and diverse approaches to content delivery. Each group was given a business scenario to analyse, promoting a collaborative atmosphere that encouraged the leveraging of each other’s strengths and skills. Subsequently, every group presented their findings to the entire class, cultivating a sense of community and shared learning where each group was encouraged to provide feedback that highlighted interesting perspectives and offer constructive comments. The success of the collaborative projects was evidenced in how the groups chose to stay connected. The following year (Year 2), these students approached me to continue in the same study group. This continuity proved beneficial during their revision sessions and preparation for the final IB exams. Their sustained connection demonstrated the lasting value of a supportive and effective learning community.

How has teaching with Pamoja influenced or enhanced your overall teaching philosophy?
Using Pamoja’s online platform has helped me integrate technology into traditional classroom settings and in my face-to-face school interactions. Catering for diverse learning styles and schedules has enabled me to understand the varying needs of students and how it is possible to deliver a personalised learning experience. Interacting with Pamoja educators from different parts of the world has been invaluable, providing a wealth of perspectives on various topics. The ongoing support from the Department Head and co-teachers has made my teaching journey both memorable and interesting.

What strategies do you employ to ensure student participation and active engagement?
From day one I clearly communicate the importance of active student engagement. With discussion activities, I try posting open-ended questions to stimulate critical thinking and encourage students to express their opinions. I also provide timely feedback on all their submissions to reinforce positive efforts and guide improvement. All students are encouraged to connect with me via Zoom for additional support and discussion. During their research process and IA submission, this ensures students get one-to-one help and timely answers when they have doubts. I send reminder emails at regular intervals, especially to those students who participate less. This encourages them to engage with the course and participate more actively.
