What does effective learning look like?

The Learning Scientists are a group of researchers, many of whom are psychologists, interested in making scientific research around learning more accessible to students, teachers, and other educators.

They have produced a range of resources that are based on the latest research findings of cognitive psychologists, such as their six strategies for learning. One such strategy is “spaced learning” – they argue that there is a strong body of research that demonstrates that spaced learning (i.e. as opposed to cramming) is much more effective, and they cite the study by Benjamin & Tullis (2010) to support this view.

Other strategies include the importance of retrieval practice, elaboration, interleaving, concrete examples and dual coding.

Their site provides you with a downloadable poster and bookmarks which you can use to explore and remind yourself of these strategies.
