Overview

The IB Environmental Systems and Societies Standard Level (SL) course provides an accessible yet comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to pressing 21st-century environmental issues. Offered in both Groups 3 and 4, it integrates scientific methodologies with insights from individuals and societies, revisiting key concepts of perspectives, systems, and sustainability across topics such as ecology, water, land, natural resources, and human populations.

Through Pamoja’s online platform, ESS SL blends rigorous academics with flexible learning. Supported by dedicated IB teachers, students develop research, data interpretation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills essential for university pathways in environmental science, policy, sustainability consulting, conservation, and related fields.

*Environmental Systems and Societies is an interdisciplinary subject that bridges Group 3 and Group 4 and can fulfil the Diploma Programme requirement for either group.

Why online?

Students will have the opportunity to:
  • Flexibility around other commitments
  • Chance for independence
  • Wide Pamoja support network

Some things won’t be different though. Standards and expectations will be just as high as in a face to face classroom.

A young woman in a denim jacket smiles brightly while holding an orange folder and discussing with two classmates on a sunny school campus.
