“Pamoja is the best way to learn subjects you are passionate about”

1) What did you study with Pamoja?

IB Psychology HL online.

2) What year did you graduate the IB DP?

2022.

3) Why did you choose to do a Pamoja online course?

I knew that I wanted to pursue a fast-paced, globally-minded approach to psychology, but my high school in the United States only offered SL Psychology with a very small group of students. My DP Coordinator informed me that I could take HL Psychology through Pamoja, which would allow me to study at my own pace, on my own time, with a bigger cohort of students from different countries who shared diverse perspectives and passions.

4) How has studying with us supported your future ambitions?

Studying with Pamoja inspired me to pursue a career as a neuroscience researcher. I became fascinated with neuroendocrinology in studying for the biological approach, and greatly enjoyed the opportunity to conduct my IA with a partner in the UAE, something which would have been impossible at my high school. My Pamoja instructor was there to help me to understand statistical analysis techniques, how to write informed consent letters, and many other essential processes which I’ve since applied in my introductory courses at USC. I look forward to applying these techniques in exploring my research interests.

5) What key skills has our flexible study approach helped you develop?

The online setup of the Pamoja classroom helped develop my skills in time management, as I was able to work on my own schedule and understand which techniques of learning/studying worked best for me. This has been integral in my college experience so far. I also learned essential skills in communicating online, especially with time/location differences; even though I was taking my Pamoja course in the United States, I was able to effectively communicate with my teachers and classmates all over the world.

6) How did engaging with our international school community help with your learning?

My favorite aspect of Pamoja’s online courses were the discussion boards, particularly in the sociocultural unit. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn from the perspectives of other cultures, and this broadened my understanding of essential topics in the unit. Despite being online, the classroom still felt like a unified community.

7) What advice would you share with other students thinking about studying a Pamoja online course?

Taking an online course through Pamoja is the best way to connect with other students beyond your school’s program and to learn subjects you are passionate about in new ways. While the online format may be different from how classes are typically taught, it will present you with new opportunities to refine your time management and communication skills.
