Overview

IB Spanish B Standard Level (SL) is designed for students with some prior experience of learning Spanish, typically at least 120 hours of study.

The course builds on that foundation by strengthening students’ ability to communicate confidently and accurately.

Through authentic materials such as articles, films and podcasts, students develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, while also deepening their understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures.

Advice from our teachers

In order to succeed in IB Spanish B SL we recommend students set aside five to six hours a week.

Activities and assessment

The emphasis is on learning actively together. Activities include live and asynchronous online discussions, creating presentations, learning from videos and interactive exercises. The course also provides more traditional activities such as reading comprehension, essay writing and oral practice to prepare students for the exams. Assessment will be both formative and summative in accordance with IB criteria.
