Overview

In this IB Chinese B Standard Level (SL) course, students continue to build their Mandarin language skills while gaining deeper insight into Chinese culture and contemporary issues. Aimed at learners with some prior experience of the language, the course develops communication across listening, speaking, reading and writing through engaging and meaningful activities. Students explore core themes such as identity, education, health and wellbeing, and social organisation. The course fosters confidence, intercultural understanding, and practical language use in real-world contexts. Chinese B is available as both an SL and HL course, following the same core units and themes.

Benefits of the course

Taking IB Chinese B SL online will enable students to:

A young woman in a blue beanie and overalls smiles while working on a rose gold laptop outdoors on a sunny city street for online learning

Why online?

Students will have the opportunity to:
  • Access a flexible yet structured online learning environment.
  • Collaborate with students from around the world.
  • Improve their digital communication and time-management skills.
  • Explore the Chinese language and culture through engaging, authentic tasks.

Some things won’t be different though. Standards and expectations will be just as high as in a face to face classroom.

A young man holding a clipboard smiles and gestures with a pencil while engaging in an excited discussion with a small group of classmates in a modern classroom setting.

Activities and assessment

Assessment tasks include oral presentations, listening and reading comprehension, writing assignments, and class discussions. These are aligned to formal IB assessment criteria and are supported by ongoing engagement tracking through Pamoja’s internal framework.
