Pamoja Online Courses are encouraged as an option amongst our student body, not only for expanding the subject choices, but also for the unique benefits of online independent learning

Pamoja Online Courses have been an integral part of the International Baccalaureate Programme at the American International School in Cyprus (AISC) for several years, providing additional subject options for our small student cohorts. Over time, favourite courses have been Psychology, Business Management, ITGS and Economics, with the more recent additions being Language ab initio electives, Philosophy and Digital Society.

Pamoja Online Courses are encouraged as an option amongst our student body, not only for expanding the subject choices, but also for the unique benefits of online independent learning. Students have the opportunity to work with online tools, new programmes and technology, and be in charge of their own time management, planning, and deadlines. They develop their communication skills, advocate for themselves, are in charge of their learning, but also collaborate with peers from across the globe, forming relationships and new friendships.

The integration of Pamoja Online Courses within ManageBac during the last academic year, made an even greater impact on the accessibility of the courses, allowing students to access all their IB courses through the same platform. Teething problems were managed with professionalism, as the Pamoja team encouraged and took on board all feedback provided, investigated, and fixed issues with impressive speed, constantly offering support. The layout of the course material within the new platform is well organised, with the new features enhancing the assessment and monitoring processes for both students and SBCs.

Throughout my time as Site-based Coordinator at AISC, I have witnessed our students grow as they navigate through their Pamoja Online Courses. They become confident in expressing themselves as they consider options and make choices; independent learners as they take charge of their work; better communicators as they interact with their online teachers and peers; and, in the process, gather and perfect important tools which will be useful in their life beyond school.
