Benefits of the course

Taking IB Extended Essay online will enable students to:

A happy young woman with long, curly auburn hair, wearing glasses and a patterned dress, works on a laptop outdoors. She has wireless earbuds in her ears and is smiling while looking down at the screen, with a modern building in the blurred background.

Why online?

Students will have the opportunity to:
  • Study alongside students from around the world.
  • Gain experience of using the latest online learning tools.
  • Regularly communicate with teachers and fellow students.
  • Take part in interactive and engaging lessons that allow them to learn, review and practice easily.
  • Practice essential 21st century skills such as digital literacy, collaboration and self-organisation.

Some things won’t be different though. Standards and expectations will be just as high as in a face to face classroom.

A young man wearing sunglasses and a blue and white striped t-shirt stands outside in a park, leaning on a wooden railing and talking to a person whose back is to the camera. Apartment buildings are visible in the blurred background.

Activities and assessment

Each IB Extended Essay module has clear objectives, activities and opportunities for students to review and reflect on their work. There are no activities to be assessed during the course; instead, a clear programme of supervision aligned to the IB guidelines is set out to ensure that EE remains entirely owned by the student; the student’s own work and their ownership of the process is crucial.
